  It took John Ontiveros and Gracie Acosta less than three days to record the horns for the latest album from Tejano legend Little Joe y La Familia, but time isn’t everything. The pair of Grammy awards the two Big Spring residents are sporting these days is certainly proof. Ontiveros, 23, and Acosta, 22, known as Those Hot Horns, received their Grammy awards at the Staple Center in Los Angeles, Calif., in February amongst the likes of celebrities and musicians Evander Holyfield, metal band Machine Head and musical legend Stevie Wonder. |

Two things haven’t changed since 19-year-old Darlene Dabney strolled in for her first day of work in July of 1958 at the building located on the corner of 15th Street and Gregg — the bank’s location and, of course, herself. Sure, she may be a little more gray around the edges, but her spry step, her warm smile and easy manner seem resilient to aging.

 A hospital provides more services than the usual surgeries, checkups, tests and medications. There is also the occasional smile, hug or even a bag of popcorn. Scenic Mountain Medical Center’s staff of volunteers have made it their business to provide a variety of human-touch services to patients and for the past three decades, Lou Hill has been at the head of their ranks.

 In our first two articles, we discussed the technical aspects of photography, such as the different cameras that are available. We also learned some new terms so that we can use to communicate with our fellow photographers. Now that we can set our cameras correctly by reading the manual (did you look under the couch?), it's time to discuss the basics of taking a photograph. |

It’s fourth and goal on the 2-yard line. Traditionally in high school football, this situation would call for the quarterback to get under center and either hand off the ball to a running back or attempt to sneak the ball across the goal line. Maybe the quarterback would run a play-action pass and possibly even roll out with a run or pass option. Instead, the quarterback lines up in the shotgun formation and fires the ball to a receiver on a quick slant route. |
